Machines for rent, ownership or sharing - how is the future?

Ownership

It makes good sense to make calculations on which type of ownership that is most profitable for the farmer. Is he / she best served by renting a machine rather than owning a machine? Are there more owners for the individual machine? And is there possibly an exchange of another machine?

Is the farmer ready for a large investment or is he/she best suited with monthly "installments" where service is a natural part? All important issues before the decision is made.

The DSM system is developed in collaboration with the machine dealers and in line with the demands of the market for a modern machine business process. JMA is responsible for developing the modules and functions needed to enable the machine dealer to run a good and future-proof business. Therefore, we have also made it possible for the machine trader to offer his customers various forms of ownership of their machines.

Farming in the future

Most machines will in the future probably consist of several self-propelled machines. Smaller machines that can run 24 hours a day and run by high-tech robots that can send automatic service messages to a service technician via the Internet. What does this mean for the farmer's business?

The farmer's forces are to cultivate their land to provide the best crops and to make sure that their animals are up their best. The agricultural machine is an important tool to meet these needs and therefore the farmer does not want any "hassle" with his machines. A service technician must make sure the farmer does not get that. How can this be done in the best way?

From an article in "Effektiv landbrug from November 26, 2018", Claas and Danish Agro believes in rentals. Claas has recently launched a new rental portal on the internet, which offers both the farmer, the contractor and the machine pool short-term rentals of new Claas tractors. The web portal is already on the go in Germany, and Danish Agro is now seeing the potential of expanding the concept to the Danish market.

DSM and rental of machines

In the new release of the DSM system, a lot of effort has been put into developing a new and improved rental module. The rental module in DSM is a module where you can create orders for one or more rental machines for a customer. You can make automatic invoicing, whether on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, and you can decide whether the lease is continued or terminated.

Service on rental machines

You can already at the time of the order determine whether service orders should be created and labour orders printed out when the rental period ends. You can hire machines for further rental and you can follow up on income and expenses via various reports and by analysis.

DSM and several owners associated with a single machine

It is possible in the DSM system to share a machine between several owners. The debtor specified on the machine card is considered as the primary owner, others as secondary. It is always the primary owner who is printed on various machine lists in the system.

It is a financial account that is used for intermediate billing by distributing amounts on invoices with several owners. In connection with the sale and / or exchange of machines, it can be stated on the sales order that the machine is sold to / taken in exchange with more than one owner.

When booking the sale, the machine will automatically be updated with information regarding the owners involved and additional documents will be created for the co-owners of the machine being sold.

Service on machines with several owners

In the service module, service orders can also be created on machines where several owners are associated. When establishing the order, any ownership information is thus automatically retrieved from the machine card. Alternatively, ownership distribution information can be entered on the individual machine lines on the service order.

Reference: Create an overview and structure for better work processes

"We chose DSM to get an overview and get control of everything from stock, sales, customers and spare parts. We can better deal with each other and see what is moving across the board. It is clear that there is a difference on those who sit out in the warehouse to us who sit in sales or the administration. The more we become, the more structure we need." Camilla Sahl Andreasen, marketing manager, Conmas.
